Unlike with standart LASIK, the flap is not cut with a microkeratome; rather, a femtosecond laser is used to cut the flap. This is why, femto LASIK is also called as “bladeless LASIK”. The rest of the procedure is the same with the standart LASIK.
Today, femto LASIK is used on a routine basis for all LASIK procedures. Femto LASIK is especially required for patients whose corneas are thinner, flatter, and steeper than normal, and for high myopes.
